Not afraid of bad weather!
Never be afraid of bad weather!
Wedding photographer at the Manor house Hotel in Guildford
As you may expect from a wedding photographer, I’m obsessive about the weather when there is a wedding to photograph. I even have an app that will give me the 5 day for a particular location. There are regular check ups as the day draws closer until the evening before, where I will check the hour-by-hour forecast against the timings for the day, and make any necessary last minute adjustments to my shoot plan for the day. However the winter of 2013/2014 had been quite predictable. Predictable in that it was non-stop rain and wind for weeks on end! It’s one of those subjects that crop up when I first meet with wedding couples. “What happens when it rains?”. A bad weather wedding day does not phase me. It can add a real sense of drama to a day. The weather also forms part of the story of someone’s big wedding day.
When Sarah and Sam got married in February we were at the tail end of one of the many big storms that had been sweeping across the country. Big gusts of wind made it impossible to have any group pictures outside the church. Luckily, churches can be fairly roomy places but can be tricky to light properly. I had invested in some extra kit to get round this and we shot all the groups as well as being able to change the set-up to capture a few natural bride-and-groom pictures that also made the most of the stained glass windows behind.
As well as some church pictures, I had planned for some images to shoot inside the The Manor House Hotel where they were holding the reception. On arrival, we were actually greeted with some sun! After a quick chat, we seized the moment and made the most of it! It really was a lovely day, heartfelt speeches, a wonderful couple and a wedding crowd who knew how to enjoy a wedding day!
You can see how the day panned out by watching their PhotoFilm. Watch out for the “special guest” who was allowed to marry Sarah and Sam, instead of the resident vicar.
