When I talk to couples, when they are initially looking for a wedding photographer, I get asked “what happens when it rains?” or “what happens if it is too windy?” a lot. It’s very understandable. We live in a country where the weather isn’t always guaranteed. I had a very lucky run of nearly 2 years without a rainy day wedding. Now that we have had what must be the wettest winter on record, I can safely say that I have now had a few weddings where the weather was not perfect.
This included a wedding for Sarah and Sam who had their reception at the Manor House Hotel in Guildford. To say that it was a windy day for wedding photography was an understatement! But, it is something a professional photographer will always plan for.
When planning the wedding photography, I kept a keen eye on the weather. I was able to relay messages to the vicar and the hotel. This always helps for a smooth running of a wedding day if they know that we are going to take pictures inside the church and Manor House Hotel. We did the group shots inside the church and a lovely room was put aside at The Manor House Hotel for some pictures of the bride and groom. We even managed to sneak outside for some quick shots in between bursts of bad weather. It’s amazing what pictures you can take even when the weather is not in your favour!
