Wedding Photographer Gate Street Barn, Guildford, Surrey. You would not believe that the heavens opened just seconds after I took these wedding pictures! You can read about that here. A bit of rain did not dampen what was a lovely sunny wedding day.
We had already met and taken some engagement pictures a few months earlier. This goes a long way to steady nerves. It also helps to get to know a couple and find out more about them. It helps me to tailor my style on the day to reflect them both and their personalities. I also like to hear about anything special they have planned. On this occasion, they decided not to use confetti but have bubbles instead. I only have one chance to grab that shot and not all guests will be able to blow big bubbles at the same time. This is why it’s great to know about these things in advance so I can plan to get the perfect bubble picture without spending hours in Photoshop! Yes, I do have a little technique to ensure we get the perfect shot every time. It’s amazing what you can do with a bubble machine placed just under the camera!
My style isn’t rocket science. Just enjoy the day and we capture the moments. I take a relaxed approach to the Bride & Groom pictures. There is very little actual posing. We tend to walk and talk a lot. Most of the conversation on this occasion was how wonderful the sun was whilst I was keeping a minute-by-minute watch on an approaching rain cloud. (I have an app for that. Very reliable too!). Obviously we beat the rain shower. It didn’t last for long and the sun was back out in all it’s glory a few minutes later. Everyone was dry, laughing and playing bar skittles!
This is the first wedding I have photographed at Gate Street Barn and loved the venue. The (mostly) sunny weather allowed for friends and family to mingle outside on the lawn. Play games or find a quiet spot in one of the buildings. Barn venues like this allow for a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. It also gives wedding photographers like me plenty of space to sink into the background and capture those natural moments.
