When I meet couples for the first time, most are a little apprehensive about how they should “act” in front of the camera. In fact, I have only had one couple who oozed confidence when we talked about being photographed on their wedding day. My advice is simple; enjoy your day and we will capture the moments.

We had a lovely time with Sarah and Richard. Even a little rain before the ceremony didn’t dampen the day. Like most couples, they didn’t want to spend ages being “posed” for photographs. A walk around the grounds of the Clock Barn was just perfect to get the natural images they wanted.

Being a working school during term time, Bradfield College only allow for a limited number of functions to be held there. What an amazing place to celebrate a wedding! Plenty of space for the wedding breakfast and the party afterwards. It was easy to escape to a quieter room for those who wanted to talk. They even hired our “Photobooth” and brought in their own inflatable instruments.

Claire and Christian.

“It’s a small church” they said.
“Not a problem as I’m used to working in confined spaces.”
“It’s quite dark”.
Again, wedding photographers are used to this and have the kind of lenses that work well in churches where light is limited.
“No, there’s no electricity, so only candle light and we’re getting married in late October”.
Luckily, I have one of the latest Canon cameras (A 5D MkII if you’re a camera buff). When I first bought it I spent a while at a summer wedding photographing friends and family enjoying a hot summers evening chatting by candle light. So that was no problem!

On the day itself we were blessed with a sunny day and the candle lit church made for such a romantic setting for Claire and Christian’s wedding. I don’t think Claire will mind me saying that she was the most excited bride I met in 2011. She couldn’t wait to walk into the small church in the grounds of Orchardleigh House and get married. A lovely day, wonderful weather and a lively congregation who relished in celebrating Claire and Christian’s wedding day.

Rachel and Michael.

I remember my first meeting with Rachel and Michael when they were first looking for a wedding photographer. “We don’t really like having our photo taken. In fact we haven’t got a single photo of us together”. There was a pause as they waited for a reaction. I get this a lot when I meet couples. The surprising thing is that I have only had one couple who were super confident about having their photo taken. My solution is simple. Just enjoy the day and your pictures will be fine.

They soon relaxed when we met for a second time at The Cantley House Hotel for their pre-wedding shoot. There is no mystery around what happens on a shoot. We just chat and I shoot some images, it’s all very informal. In fact, on the day itself, they were so relaxed; their natural sense of fun took over. We had a real laugh capturing special moments of Rachel & Michael, and their friends, enjoying a wonderful wedding day.

The one thing I love when a couple decide to have their wedding celebrations in the grounds of their home is that everyone is instantly relaxed as most are already familiar with the surroundings.

Claire got ready for her big day in a lovely home which belonged to a member of the family. Jamie and Claire also erected a marquee in the back garden. However, this back garden contained a folly or two, tennis court, pool, bridge and some wonderfully mature trees, all within meters of each other. So not only was everyone having a swell time in the afternoon sun, I was able to take some lovely images of Claire and Jamie around the grounds and then walk the few meters back to where all the fun was happening.

Sabina and Mike.

The Old Thorns Golf and Country Club is a treasure of a venue! We had so many stunning places (Both outdoors and in) to shoot wedding photos there was never going to be enough time for them all! This is a great “problem” to have.

After all their months of planning, it was wonderful to see Sabina and Mike have such a wonderful wedding day. From the sunlight pouring into the ceremony room, to heartfelt speeches, and hanging out on the terrace soaking up the sun and chatting to friends.

For the bride and groom wedding pictures we spent our time with Sabina and Mike out on the course. They had the time of their lives and even whipped off their shoes and socks for a little splash in one of the lakes. Although, I’m not quite sure what they enjoyed most, having their pictures taken or whizzing round on the golf buggies!

This was my first wedding photography shoot at Silchester House. It’s a venue which is solely dedicated to weddings. After some works in the early part of the year, the interior of Silchester House is faultless. Absolutely stunning!

The weather was perfect for Jo and Dan’s big day, at Silchester House, and Jo lapped up every second of it. Many couples will comment about how quickly their day went (As did my own wedding) but, during the day, I could see Jo looking around and taking in every moment of her magical day. It was if she was trying to pause time itself. And she’ll always have the wedding photos we shot throughout the day to re-live it all over again!

Joanne and Jits.

What perfect weather for April wedding photography at Aldermaston Manor. Not a shower in sight. Lots of sunshine, and a bit of cloud, to ensure it wasn’t too hot. Such a great mix of people too. Such a relaxed feel to the day too. Joanne and Jits really relaxed into the day and thoroughly enjoyed themselves and that came through in the wedding images we shot.

I’ve been to this venue a number of times and always look to try something new. The lads did a sterling job jumping off this tree stump to make this fun shot!

Wedding photography for winter weddings can be like great comedy, it’s all about the timing!

We are used to working in dark churches, but there is usually only a small window of opportunity to shoot any outdoor wedding photos before the sun disappears behind the horizon for another day. This is where a pre-wedding shoot comes in handy. As well as getting to know Nicky and Alex a bit more and taking pictures around the grounds of Oakley Hall, we realised that they would have less than an hour, after the service, before the sun went down.

On the big day we had great weather. Not a drop of rain and just a few clouds in the sky. After the service, everyone headed off to Oakley Hall and we were ready for them! We knew exactly where to shoot some natural wedding photos and get the most out of the evening sun. We even managed to get a shot of the lads under the floodlit tree in the last few minutes of sunshine!

It all makes for some fun wedding photography at Oakley Hall and an enjoyable day for the bride and groom and pictures they can look back on in years to come.

We did the photography for  Eleni and Ian’s wedding at Rivervale Barn, Yateley. After seeing their images, we received this card. What a great wedding day and we’re dead chuffed when we get a thank-you card!
